I hope you had an opportunity to listen in last week when I was on the radio! The topic we discussed was 'Exhausted to Energized-Energy Techniques to Reclaim Your Health & Your Life.'
We all know that there are the obvious reasons for fatigue--a poor night's sleep, poor diet, stress, life issues, etc. But there are other reasons you may not be aware of as to why you can wake up feeling drained and exhausted, and they have nothing to do with the basic lifestyle routine. There are 2 main categories as to why you might be feeling tired.
❇ 1. Energy coming in
❇ 2. Energy coming out
❇ 1. By "energy coming in" I am referring to the energy in the outside environment that is coming into your energy field and having a negative impact on you. If you are a sensitive person, you may be picking up energetically and emotionally on some non-beneficial energies around you, which can max out your system and make you feel exhausted.
This can include picking up on emotions, or even physical symptoms from the people around you. If the person standing next to you is feeling depressed, anxious, or physically unwell, you may be feeling those sensations without realizing it's not even yours. We've all heard the phrase 'contact high' or 'contact low.' This is exactly what that means!
You can also be picking up on the collective energies in your social environment, including your family, you workplace, your city, even your country, and the energies of all humankind on the planet. At times, fear is a strong energy flowing from the collective energy of humanity. If you are sensitive, your system can feel overwhelmed and stressed from this non-beneficial energy.
You can also pick up on energies of animals and plants--or shifts and imbalances of the planet, the galaxy, and the universe.
The easiest way to manage this energy, and keep it from exhausting you, is to develop a state of ongoing mindfulness.
From moment to moment, check in with your emotional and physical state. If there is a sudden change in how you are feeling, or you are feeling unwell, ask yourself, "Is this mine, or is this coming from somewhere else?" If it is not yours, you can acknowledge that whatever sensation you are feeling is simply information from the environment.
Acknowledge the value of the information, take a breath, and consciously release that energy from your energy system. Imagine that the energy is like gently flowing water, and allow it to flow either up through the top of your head, or down your body and out your feet.
❇ 2. By "energy going out" I am referring to how you expend your own personal energy. Are you crazy- busy, like a gerbil on a gerbil wheel, always running and never seeming to get anywhere? So many people these days are caught in a wave of busy energy without actually consciously creating their life.
The most important thing here is to truly get in touch with your life purpose. You might already know your life calling, or you might need some guidance on this.
Sit down with your journal and brainstorm about the things that really give you joy and make you feel alive, as well as those things that you feel truly passionate about. Once you get clear about your life purpose, say YES only to those activities in your life that are truly aligned with your life purpose.
Are you in various groups and committees that have nothing to do with your life vision? It's time to resign from those activities! Release anything that is sucking your energy away. Obviously, you have to take care of some basic responsibilities like caring for your family and keeping a roof over your head. But that definitely does not mean you have to stay at a soul-sucking job. Do you believe that it is normal and inevitable that you have to work at a job you hate? It is time to release that false belief and begin to follow your life purpose. When you are consciously creating your life, you have more energy and vitality doing what you love.
In addition to consciously creating your life, it is important to cultivate your energy each and every day. Is self-care a high priority for you? If not, it really should be!
When you take time for self-care, you will have so much more to share with others in the long run. Take time to get plenty of rest each night, eat healthy food, drink plenty of water, spend time in nature, get a massage, read a book, take a hot bath, have lunch with a friend, or whatever gives you joy.
Getting a Reiki session is also another great method of self-care, because it helps balance, restore, and replenish your energy.
